Norfolk, VA – Gdańsk, Poland’s blackened death metal masters Behemoth brought an all-star lineup to decimate The NorVA including Yonkers, New York’s death metal band Immolation, Athens, Greece’s melodic black metal outfit Rotting Christ and Tampa, Florida’s death metal band Deicide.
Things got off to an early start when Immolation took the stage 15 minutes prior to the advertised show time. People were filing in as the band played. Their set consisted mostly of songs from their April 10, 2026 album Descent. While the set was short, the effect Immolation had on the crowd wasn’t. A few people hit me up about them and I said ever time I see them they kill it. This is my first time seeing them as an opener, and what an opening is was!!!!

It has been a couple of years since I last saw Rotting Christ and for a number of people it was their first time seeing them. They, too, are supporting a new album, Aealo, released on January 23rd, 2026. They played two songs from the new album along a handful from previous efforts. This is where I saw the first signs of pit activity. I feel that was restrained by The NorVA’s change in policy concerning crowd surfing. Despite that policy, there was plenty of headbanging and everybody was having a good time!!!!

It has been seven years since I last saw Behemoth live, so I was really looking forward to seeing them. The last time the band played The NorVA was April 28, 2008 and this was my first time catching them live. Nergal and Orion wasted no time in firing up the crowd, as they blew the audience away with a combination of brutal blackened death metal and some of the best lighting I have ever seen for such a band!!!! Most of the material they played was from their last four efforts, including 2025’s The Shit ov God. Hardcore Behemoth fans were eating it up, lots of pit activity and headbanging. This was by and far the best performance I had ever seen. They were tight and sounded incredible!!!!!
