Silver Spring, Maryland – The second round of The Bay Strikes Back tour package comes to decimate The Fillmore. I saw the first round of the tour when they played Baltimore Soundstage on May 1st, so when I had a chance to catch it a second time I jumped at the opportunity.

As with the previous tour, Death Angel kicked off night and although they played a short set, the set consisted of songs from albums The Ultra-Violence to Humanicide. Mark Osegueda takes a moment to thank the audience for coming out on a Thursday night to throw down. The crowd responded with lots of screaming, moshing and a decent amount of crowd surfing which kept security busy.

Exodus fans were out in force and showed their presence with serious pit activity and crowd surfing, so much so that I bailed from the photo pit early so that security could do their job without me in the way. Gary Holt came out and played the beginning to Slayer’s Raining Blood and then made a mistake, for some of us it was funny. Zetro took a moment to thank security for taking care of all of the crowd surfers. What started as a Baltimore Soundstage thing with the crowd yelling “holy shit” between songs continued here as well.

Testament closed out the night and while the crowd surfers didn’t immediately kick in, by the time the band started playing The Pale King the wave began in earnest. It was another opportunity to see Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson play guitar.

For fans of thrash metal this is one brutal and fun tour package to see live and I feel fortunate to see it twice. There is not a lot to say that hasn’t already been said, three historic Bay Area thrash on tour playing their asses off. The Bay Strikes Back Tour 2nd Leg runs through October 15th and more information can be found here.
