Virginia Beach, Virginia – Hitting the road to support their new album Netherheaven released on September 9th, 2022, Revocation brings Krisiun, Alluvial and Inoculation along for the quest. Local support was provided by Virginia Beach blasphemers Gutted Christ.
At precisely 7 PM, Gutted Christ took the stage and started the night off. Their sound is a mix of old school death metal and slam, which I like. They sounded good and most of their set consisted of songs from their upcoming album. It was good to see my friends play because it has been some time since I last saw them throw down.

Cleveland, Ohio’s Inoculation came out and set the pace with a level of energy that I had not seen from a band in some time. These guys were on fire and while their set was short, it was brutal. I had never seen them before and after they played, I posted a comment on Facebook and got a response from a friend of mine from Cleveland who told me that Ohio bands don’t mess around!!! I visited the merch table and bought a t-shirt and a CD of their latest effort Celestial Putridity. Check these guys out, you won’t be disappointed. While I could not find a setlist for Inoculation’s set, most of their songs were from the April 8th, 2021 album Celestial Putridity.

Portland’s Alluvial took the stage and whipped up the hardcore kids in the crowd with a set of songs from their May 28, 2021 effort Sarcona. Pit activity picked up as the hardcore dancers got their chance to mosh. Their music reminded me more of hardcore than death metal but they were a change of pace from straight up death metal.

The last time I saw Krisiun live was twelve years ago, when they were supporting Nile on their “Those Whom The Gods Detest” tour and stopped in Virginia Beach at a venue that has been gone for years. The band melted the faces of the crowd at Gil’s and twelve years later they came back to duplicate that effort. Touring in support of their July 29th, 2022 album Mortem Solis, where they proceeded to continue in their fine tradition of melting faces. Playing only two songs from Mortem Solis, most of the set’s material came from albums as far back as 2000’s Conquerors of Armageddon. It was killer to see them play live again.

It has been five years since Revocation last played Virginia Beach at the former Shaka’s Live, but the faithful came out to see one of their favorites perform live. I could see fog and what appeared to be lighting far darker than I have ever seen for a Revocation set. David Davidson, Noah Young and Brett Bamberger came out and started with some high energy moves to Nihilistic Violence from their new album Netherheaven to get things going. The lighting while dramatic, definitely added to the music being played. The set included four songs from Netherheaven and the crowd loved it.
It was a great night to see some death metal and while the crowd wasn’t huge, there were enough people there to represent the Hampton Roads metal scene. There were five shows playing in the area splitting the potential audience. The North American tour runs through October 16th, dates and ticket information can be found here. Tickets
