Norfolk, VA — The legendary classic rock singer-songwriter James Taylor & His All-Star Band with special guest Jackson Browne brought a lifetime of memories to Norfolk, Virginia’s Scope Arena November 20th. With hits spanning five decades, these two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers performed masterfully some of the most cherished songs from the 20th century and beyond, while also continuing their legacies with new music.

Selling over 100 million albums so far, James Taylor’s music transcends generations as was obvious by the diverse audience. The breathtaking stage setup was framed by a massive faux tree and multi-colored leaf-shaped lights dancing above, but the real star to light up the arena was James Taylor himself. He received well-deserved standing ovations with fan favorites such as “Fire and Rain,” “How Sweet It Is (To be Loved by You),” and “Carolina on My Mind.” A jazz vibe took over as James pulled out the electric guitar for “Steamroller.” Filled with incredible solos on trumpet, keys and guitars, the hit song ended with a bit of rockstar airtime from Taylor himself. He then performed a song from his newest album, “American Standard,” released in 2020. Check out the complete setlist below.

Jackson Browne, who just received his 8th Grammy nomination (Best Americana Album for Downhill From Everywhere) and is a legend in his own right, opened for James Taylor with hits such as “Somebody’s Baby,” “Late for the Sky,” and “Doctor My Eyes.” Taylor took the stage and performed with Browne for fan favorites “Running on Empty” and “The Pretender,” but they saved the best for last. (See Jackson Browne’s setlist below.)

Included in the encore set was the beloved Eagles cover “Take It Easy” which was written by Browne and performed on stage with Taylor. Naturally it drew a standing ovation from the packed arena. Taylor’s rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend (Carole King cover)” then followed with beautiful harmonies and zealous cheers from the crowd. The night ended with a duet of Taylor and his son Henry performing “You Can Close Your Eyes” with the last line “you can sing this song when I’m gone.”
