Baltimore, MD – Florida death metal legends Morbid Angel bring annihilation to Baltimore with support from Boston’s technical death metal veterans Revocation, Portland’s brutal death metal foursome Vitriol and São Paulo, Brazil’s all female death metal band Crypta.

The band I wanted to see the most on this package was Crypta, I have listened to them for years and it was time to see them live. With two former members of the Brazilian thrash metal band Nervosa, Fernanda Lira on bass and vocals and Luana Dametto on drums as well as Jéssica di Falchi and Tainá Bergamaschi on guitars, this is one powerful band. They demonstrated that power opening the show promptly at 7:30 PM playing set of songs from their 2021 effort “Echoes Of The Soul”. They dedicated “From The Ashes” to Frederick Forrest Livingston Jr., the man who died when the roof of the Apollo Theater in Belvidere, Illinois collapsed. If you haven’t seen Crypta, make every effort to do so!!!!

The last time I saw Vitriol, they were the support band for Exhumed when they toured in November of last year and played the Taphouse in Norfolk, VA. A couple friends of mine from the Hampton Roads area made the trek and we discussed how they sounded at Soundstage as opposed to the Taphouse and we all agreed they sounded fuller and heavier. While their set was short, they played songs “The Rope Calls You Brother” and “The Parting of a Neck”. If you get an opportunity to throw down with these guys, don’t sleep on it!!!

I have seen Revocation many times over the years and have been amazed by the guitar wizardry of David Davidson. He recently broke his right wrist when he tripped over a cord on stage at a recent show and will be unable to play for the rest of the tour. He stepped up and decided to front the band and sing which I thought he did incredibly well and Noah Young handled the lead and rhythm guitar duties with no problem. Dave mentioned that he was jonesing to play guitar but resisted the urges since the doctor told him no playing for six weeks. Later in the set Dave called for an air guitar contest where he would be “judge, jury and executioner” and the winner got a free tour t-shirt. The contest was short and Dave pointed out the winner. Their set consisted of songs from “Netherheaven” and other recent efforts. It was good to see them live on this tour package.

It has been four years since I last saw Morbid Angel and while they are still touring primarily off of their 2017 album “Kingdoms Disdained”. Bass player and vocalist Steve Tucker has said the band will be working on new music between tours. Their set consisted mostly of songs from “Kingdoms Disdained”, “Gateways to Annihilation” and “Blessed Are The Sick”. While the band played some David Vincent era Morbid Angel, most people want to hear songs from “Altars Of Madness”. Regardless, the band came out and just kicked ass with Steve Tucker’s brutal style and delivery while guitarists Trey Azagthoth and Dan Vadim Von handled the guitar work and Charlie Koryn on drums. I have never been disappointed with a Morbid Angel set and this was no exception.
