Simpsonville, SC – The concertgoers making their way into CCNB Amphitheatre at Heritage Park Tuesday night could not only feel the multiple bursts of energy as the crowd geared up for The Smashing Pumpkins‘ Upstate tour stop, but there was also a distinct reminder that South Carolina was not ready to ease back on the heat of the summer. Yes, despite those cherished-by-some Fall flavors already being pushed out by a certain coffee chain, something about this week turned the dial back up to “11” on weather station.

Leading up to the brilliant performance by The Smashing Pumpkins, an evening that included solid support from PVRIS (pronounced “Paris”), band members were spotted in and around the Greenville area on what was described as a couple of days off the road. One of those moments happened at a favorite local record store, Horizon Records, when lead singer and guitarist, Billy Corgan, dropped by to shop and left a nice little “Billy Was Here” souvenir. I am always thrilled to hear when touring bands make time to stop and shop for records. Let’s all keep vinyl thriving. #supportyourlocalrecordstore

The Smashing Pumpkins have been delivering a steady line of North American headline dates for The World Is A Vampire Tour. Courtesy of a gifted ticket by a dear friend, I was able to catch the show at their stop in Charlotte, NC last August. When their route brought them to the Upstate this year, the home field buzz was a perfect backdrop for another round.

Formed in Chicago circa 1988, the band heavily influenced the climate of the 1990’s and continue to firmly hold a place with their distinct sound. The band’s current arrangement includes frontman and guitarist Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, keyboardist and singer Katie Cole, bass player Jack Bates, and newest touring member, guitarist Kiki Wong. With a mix of founding, returning and newer members, the night also delivered a setlist of  similar fusion.

PVRIS offered opening support for this select tour date. Pronounced “Paris”, the band was originally named the same, however changed the spelling due legal reasons. The band consists of front woman, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lynn Gunn (Lyndsey Gunnulfsen), Brian MacDonald (bass, guitar, keyboards) and Denny Agosto (drums). Visit HERE for the band’s recent release, “Oil & Water”.
