Co-headlining bands Whittier, California’s death metal outfit Skeletal Remains and Portland, Oregon’s black metal band Bewitcher bring the heavy to Baltimore with support from Portland, Oregon’s Witch Vomit and Fargo, North Dakota’s Phobophilic.
This is my first time seeing and shooting a show at Metro Gallery and the times they listed for door and show start time were incorrect. The doors were supposed to be at 6 PM with the show starting at 7. Due to traffic, I walked in the door a few minutes after 7 and Witch Vomit was half way through their set, so I got to listen to their last three songs. I wished I could have caught their entire set because I liked what I was hearing. The set consisted mostly of songs from their April 5th, 2024 album ‘Funeral Sanctum’. If you like classic death metal, give Witch Vomit a listen.

Touring as a three piece, Phobophilic continued the aural assault with a set consisting of songs mostly from their September 16, 2022 effort “Enveloping Absurdity’. Listening to the band reminded me of the last time I saw Tomb Mold live, both have a similar style and sound which I really liked. If you haven’t heard Phobophilic, take a moment out of your day and give them a listen.

Nauseating Despair
Survive in Obscurity
Cathedrals of Blood (Twilight of the Idols)
This is my first time seeing Skeletal Remains live, so I had no idea what to expect. From the crowd response, this was the band to see because movement in the pit increased substantially during their set, which consisted of mostly songs from their March 8th, 2024 album ‘Fragments of The Ageless’ with some older material thrown in as well. To me, Skeletal Remains have a heavy technical death metal feel to them which I liked a lot.

It has been a minute since I last caught Bewitcher live and on September 27th, they released their latest full length ‘Spell Shock’ which they played some tracks from, as well songs from their last three albums. There were people who left after Skeletal Remains played and I think they missed in my opinion the best performance of the night. It is no secret that I really like Bewitcher, and the guys kicked ass!!!!
