Leesburg, Virginia – The Michael Schenker Group (MSG) came to rock out the Tally Ho Theater with support from Denver, Colorado’s Eric Martin and York, Pennsylvania’s Images Of Eden.
Kicking off the night was Images Of Eden, a band I was not familiar with before tonight. Looking them up on Metal Archives, I came to find out the band has been around for more than 20 years and has released five albums. Several people in the audience were friends with the lead singer Gordon Titisworth and said they liked the band. For me personally, I thought they could have been a little harder, but the crowd was pleased with them. What I was surprised by was the short set, only five songs.

Another band I had not heard of was Eric Martin, this one I am a little embarrassed for not knowing who they are. Eric played in Mr. Big, along with Paul Gilbert and has performed with Marty Friedman and John 5. This is a guy who already should have been on my radar! For the tour, Eric assembled a stellar group of musicians including PJ Farley of Fozzy, Jason Hartless of Ted Nugent and Paul Pesco of Hall & Oates. Their set consisted of Mr. Big covers and one Cat Stevens song. I liked what I was hearing, although at times I could just barely hear Paul’s guitar, as if it was tuned down in the mix. At one point Paul got his Jimi Hendrix on and played with his teeth. For me that was worth the price of admission!

As a teenager in the 1970’s I used to listen to UFO a lot as they were getting lots of airplay. Songs like “Lights Out”, “Rock Bottom” and “Too Hot To Handle” were always on rotation. The last time I saw the Michael Schenker Group live was July 31, 2010 when they were touring with Lynch Mob in a package called “Battle of the Axes”, so I was looking forward to seeing them play live. The crowd was what I expected, mostly people in their 50’s and 60’s with a number of young people as well, which I thought was cool. The set consisted mostly of UFO covers which played to the ‘sweet spot’ for the audience, allowing them for a moment to relish their teenage years, even for a moment. This was a fun show and if you are into classic rock you should not miss this.
