Virginia Beach, Virginia – Multi-platinum country rock sensation Zac Brown Band on the Out in the Middle Tour pulled up in Virginia Beach, Virginia bringing that mellow, carefree vibe closing out the 2022 concert season at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater.

Blues master, singer, songwriter and pedal steel guitarist, Robert Randolph opened the night with his unique funky style as the crowd filed in.

Zac Brown Band’s performance for the night was divided into three parts, and I was invited to photograph portions of sets 1 and 2 instead of just the usual first 3 songs. Set 1’s production featured a cozy pub atmosphere with neon signs, a few band members entertaining the crowd, an American flag, two big screen TV’s, and a bar complete with customers enjoying the show. Zac first performed an acoustic version of the playful beach song “Toes” and ended with fan favorites, “Sweet Annie” and “Same Boat.”

Set 2 began with white curtains stretched across the entire stage. After an intro, much to my surprise, the curtains didn’t fall, but flew up into the rafters like angel wings ascending into the heavens revealing the full band, flanked by two massive trees. The moody production provided a back woods country feel to the show. The set began with “Keep Me in Mind” and “Out in the Middle.” A little later, Zac and the whole band rocked the stage performing his favorite song of the night, “GA Clay” complete with too many guitar riffs and solos to mention. To close out the set, the band nailed one of my personal favorites, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia (The Charlie Daniels Band cover) .” with the incredible Jimmy De Martini on the fiddle.

Set 3, which included a medley of cover songs, seemed like a short but grand finale singalong celebration ending in fan favorite “Chicken Fried.” (See the complete setlist below.)

Fans filed out exhausted but elated after a night of great country music from one of Georgia’s finest on what was a beautiful Virginia night. With the incredible production, set changes, and massive stage full of some of the most talented musicians in the country music industry, it was a fantastic way to end the amphitheater’s 2022 season.
