Wilmington, DE – The Queen Theater in Wilmington, Delaware, has a fascinating history that adds to its charm and allure. Originally built in the late 1800s as a hotel for sailors, it transitioned in the 1920s into a movie theater, where it operated for several decades. It closed in the late 1950’s.

Fast forward more than 70 years, and the theater has been revived in spectacular fashion. Zakk Wylde, the legendary guitarist known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society, took to the stage with Zakk Sabbath, a powerhouse trio delivering an unforgettable set of Black Sabbath classics. The band’s lineup featured Zakk Wylde on guitars and vocals, Rob “Blasko” Nicholson (Ozzy, Rob Zombie) on bass guitar, and Joey Castillo (Danzig, Queens of the Stone Age) on drums. Together, the trio delivered a thunderous performance, blending precision and raw energy to bring the Queen roaring back to life.

The audience was a mixed crowd of mostly older metalheads who had lived through the ’80s, the decade of decadence. This event, Zakk Sabbath’s King of the Monsters tour, featured stellar performances by The Iron Maidens, a tribute to Iron Maiden, and ZoSo, a tribute to Led Zeppelin. Both acts were nothing short of amazing, serving as the perfect appetizer for the headliner, Zakk Sabbath.

The show was completely sold out, with fans packing the historic venue to revel in the night of heavy metal nostalgia.

I couldn’t help but reminisce about seeing Zakk Wylde perform with Ozzy at the Tower Theater in the late ’80s. Even then, I thought to myself, “This guitarist is amazing and will really carve out a niche for himself if he stays healthy and doesn’t succumb to the demise of so many rockers of that era.” And now, decades later, I watch him rip through classic Tony Iommi riffs, commanding the audience like a true master of pinch harmonics. At one point, Zakk stood still with his arms folded, stage right perched on his riser, scanning the venue, soaking it all in. He wasn’t just a performer—this was his congregation, and he was in charge.

Zakk covered about 13 deep cuts from previous Black Sabbath albums including, “Fairies Wear Boots”, “Supernaut”, “Into The Void”, “Hand Of Doom”, “NIB” and “War Pigs”, just to name a few.

Zakk Sabbath and the King of the Monstours is a must-see for any fan of classic metal, Ozzy, Sabbath, Iron Maiden & Led Zeppelin.
