Denver, CO – There is a place not so far from here, where people gather in masses to enjoy the simple pleasures of music. This place is called Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. Having such a place as this in your own back yard, gives you the chance to enjoy a natural amphitheater time and time again. At the foot of the Rocky Mountains, Red Rocks opened in 1906. In 1926, the city of Denver bought the land and construction began in 1936. It was finished in 1941 and opened again. Some of the biggest acts in the world have graced Red Rocks with their music. Greats such as the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull, Pearl Jam, etc. We can rattle off names all day and night. When asked which venue artists loved playing the most, many of them say Red Rocks. Their love of Red Rocks isn’t just that it can seat 10,000 people, but the whole experience. From the natural beauty, to the crazy sound of the venue.
To have such a place in your own back yard, KBPI uses it to their advantage. KBPI came on air in 1965. For a rock station, that length of time is something to brag about and every year they brag loud and proud with KBPI’s Birthday Bash.
Every year the lineup they put together is something most can only dream about. KBPI has been hosting their Birthday Bash since most of us were kids. All I can say is that every year, the lineup gets better. This year was no exception.
With Willie B hosting, this show was sure to melt faces and give the fans a night they will always remember. The lineup was incredible with Cherry Bombs, Black Veil Brides, Motionless In White, Ice Nine Kills, and In This Moment. The Trinity of Terror Tour Part 2 kicked off at Red Rocks on 8/30/2022, which features three bands from this show – Motionless In White, Black Veil Brides, and Ice Nine Kills.
The show kicked off with a bang at 6:00pm. Cherry Bombs put on such a crazy show that it’s hard to put into words. If you haven’t seen Cherry Bombs before, I highly recommend it. Cherry Bombs bring a show like no other. With fire dancing, grinding, stilt walking, and aerial acrobatics, while playing legendary music by some of the top rockers, this was the perfect way to kick off the Birthday Bash.

Next to the stage was Black Veil Brides. 10,000 fans were amped up and ready for the next set. After a brief intermission, the band walked out on stage. No instruments, just them. Andy Biersack, Jinxx, Jake Pitts, Christian “CC” Coma, and Lonny Eagleton stood on stage and announced that they wouldn’t be able to perform that evening due to their equipment not arriving in time for the show. The crowd was sad, but before we could get too disappointed, they proceeded to tell us that they were putting on a free show for all in attendance on Thursday at the Oriental Theater in Denver. The crowd went nuts and I am sure Thursdays show was a packed house.

Motionless In White was up next. They came out like a bat out of hell and started the set off with “Disguise”, “Voices”, and “Slaughterhouse”. For “Slaughterhouse” (live debut), they brought out Joe Cotela of the band Ded. This performance brought the house to their feet with the energy that Chris “Motionless” Cerulli and Joe Cotela brought to this song. with Ryan Sitkowski, Ricky “Horror” Olson, Vinny Mauro, and Justin Morrow bringing home the sound, there was a completeness to the show. They finished the set with “Another Life”, “Somebody Told Me” (The Killers cover), and “Eternally Yours”.

Ice Nine Kills was up next. This band puts on an amazing show that they act out in a fully theatrical way. Hailing from Boston, these guys will melt your face. Spencer Charnas brings an energy to the stage that most can only dream of. While singing, he acts out his songs with gruesome detail. Chopping limbs off and portraying Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. The band came out dressed to the nines in suits, with masks and a stunning light show. Ricky Armellino, Patrick Galante, Joe Occhiuti, and Dan Sugarman blasted out “Welcome To Horrorwood”, “Würst Vacation”, and “Hip to Be Scared” to start the set. They moved into “Stabbing In The Dark”, “Rainy Day”, and “IT Is the End” for the middle of their set. The crowd reached a crazy tempo. They polished off this perfect set with “The Shower Scene”, “Funeral Derangements”, and “The American Nightmare”. To say that Ice Nine Kills murdered their set would be a true understatement. They left the stage to the crowd wanting even more.

The last set of the night was In This Moment. Everyone had been waiting to see In This Moment for a long time. Back in 2019, ITM was supposed to play Red Rocks and the show was canceled. Then the pandemic hit and shut everything down. In 2021, they came to the Mission Ballroom, but two of the band members caught Covid and the show was cut short. This show at Red Rocks has been a show in the making for years now. The time had finally come to unleash In This Moment upon Colorado. For such a big milestone, the band brought a full crew to film the show. Due to the filming, we weren’t able to photograph the set. Keep an eye out on their website and YouTube for the full video when it is released.
The band came out to “Salvation” and then the curtain dropped. The stage setup was beyond crazy. So much planning had went into this setup. There were choreographed dancers, a huge stage for Maria Brink to perform on, a separate stage for the one and only Chris Howorth to perform. He was decked out in a hooded robe looking sinister as hell. Travis Johnson on the left side of the stage with his signature faceless mask while Randy Weitzel was on the right with his face painted like a demon. Kent Diimmel was thrashing the drums to the right of center stage.
They started the show with “Burn”, “The In-Between”, and “Adrenalize”. Then, Maria Brink went around and introduced the band to the audience. From there, they went into the second half of the set. They played “Roots”, “The Blood Legion”, “Monster Jam”, “Big Bad Wolf”, and finally “Blood”. The lights went out and people were not quite ready to leave. From the darkness, came Maria Brinks voice asking “Tell us Red Rocks, before we leave tonight, is there something left that we can do for you? Tell me, is there something you would like to hear?”. The crowd did not disappoint, together, they hollered WHORE! “Let’s give the people what they request”. The crowd erupted in cheer. As the lights came on, it showed Maria Brink atop a podium that had Whore written in bloody letters. Out came the dancers and “Whore” began. Afterwards, Maria thanked the crowd for coming out, and that was a wrap. Everyone left the venue that night knowing that they had just witnessed something truly special.
