Indianapolis, IN. – It only took two rescheduled dates and a venue change (thanks pandemic) but Indianapolis was finally going to get that Kaleo date that fans had been waiting for! It was Saturday night and the lobby of Old National Centre was buzzing in anticipation of the Fight or Flight Tour as fans gathered to take a selfie with the tours promo poster, grab a beverage, and/or get in line to grab that coveted t-shirt from the merch table.

Kicking off tonight’s show was Myron Elkins and the Dying Breed. Not familiar with the opener, I decided to get to the venue a little early to check out the band and see what it was all about – and I’m so happy that I did. With sounds and songwriting reminiscent of Waylon Jennings, Hank Jr., or more recent, Sturgill Simpson, this young man from small-town Michigan is looking to lessons from country music’s past to keep things simple and pure while still creating something fresh and new. Debuting song’s off his first EP, “Just Another As@hole with a Guitar”, Myron was joined on stage by musicians Caleb Stampfler (lead guitar), Jake Bartlett (drums & evening’s birthday boy), Nate Johnson (bass) and Avry Whitaker (guitar) a.k.a The Dying Breed. Heavy in country tradition, rock-a-billy and grass-roots blues, Myron Elkins and the Dying Breed is definitely one to keep an eye on! Myron Elkins and the Dying Breed are wrapping up their dates on the Fight or Flight tour but will still be out touring through May. It won’t take long for word to get out concerning this band; trust me when I tell you this is a star on the rising. (Side note: Myron is the first performer that I have had several people come up to me (& security) after his set wanting to know who that was! Yea, they were that good!) Make sure to look for them on your favorite streaming device and give em’ a listen!!

Next up was Icelandic blues-rock band, Kaleo, featuring singer Jökull (JJ) Júlíusson (vocals, keyboard, rhythm guitar), Rubin Pollock (lead guitar), Daníel Ægir Kristjánsson (bass, keyboards), Davíd Antonsson (drums, percussion), and Porleifur Gaukur Davídsson (harmonica, bongos, keyboards). From the moment they walked onto stage, the band took no time getting right into the whole reason behind the Fight or Flight Tour; Kaleo’s third studio album Surface Sounds out now via Elektra Records

The band gave a solid 90-minute set mainly focusing on the new album that included singles “Break My Baby”, “Alter Ego“, and “Backbone” while still covering fan favorites from the first two albums with hits “Broken Bones”, “Way Down We Go” and Kaleo’s most famous single, “No Good” which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance. With sounds heavy in Delta Blues mixed with alt-rock and swirls of indie folk, Kaleo has taken care making sure this music gets out to their fans – even delaying the albums release date so they could tour behind the album and bring the music to the fans!
