Indianapolis, IN. – The Murat Theatre at Old National Centre was all a buzz Monday evening in anticipation of Hozier bringing his Wasteland, Baby! tour to Indianapolis! The sold out crowd settled into the theatre as the band BAILEN, a sibling trio from New York, kicked the evening off with music from their new album, Thrilled to Be Here. Twin brothers Daniel (bass, vocals) and David (drums, vocals) along with sister Julia (guitar, vocals) describe their sound as “sibling harmonies to melt your soul” and they were not kidding. Melodic sounds with an ambient feel topped by beautiful harmonies is what BAILEN is all about. At times you could have heard a pin drop as the siblings used the acoustics of the room to soar their harmonies and sound throughout the theatre. It was a beautiful set and I personally look forward to hearing more from this group.
Next up was the main event and you could feel the excitement and energy build in the room. Hozier has not toured since his breakout album released in September of 2014 and this crowd was ready to see this show! As the band made its way on stage, Hozier picked up his guitar and strummed that first note – the crowd rose to their feet and never sat back down. Opening the show with songs from his new album, Wasteland, Baby!, released earlier this year in March, Hozier and bandmates did not waste any time getting down to business and giving it everything from the very first note. Currently touring with Hozier is his smokin’ hot band made up of members: Alex Ryan (Musical Director, Bass, Keyboards, Vocals), Rory Doyle (Drums, Vocals), Suzanne Santo (Fiddle, Guitar, Vocals), Cormac Curan (Organ, Keyboards, Vocals), Rachel Beauregard (Percussion, Backing Vocals), Kristen Rodgers (Percussion, Keyboard, Vocals), and Thandii (Keyboards, Vocals). The (almost) two-hour set was a solid mix of soul, rock and blues with songs from his current release along with fan-favorites from his first album. It was exactly what this Indy crowd was wanting and needing, as they sang along to all the songs while at times even drowning out the band! It was a perfect night of music enjoyed by all. Make sure to catch this show as it makes its way across the U.S. with new dates just added in October and November.
