Miramar, Fl – The Spring Flashback Music Festival at the Amphitheater at Miramar Regional Park transports music enthusiasts to a bygone era of pulsating beats and infectious melodies on March 23, 2024. With a lineup boasting an array of iconic artists from the ’80s and ’90s, Charlie Rodriguez Entertainment Live transforms the stage into a time machine, whisking attendees away on a journey through the golden age of freestyle and dance music. Priming the pump, so to speak, is South Florida’s favorite freestyle dj, DJ Jorge Santana.
The festivities commence with a dynamic performance by newcomer, Melissa Bonilla, whose soulful vocals and vibrant stage presence warms up the crowd and sets the stage for an unforgettable night. Next up is Tom Hooker, whose energetic performance has concertgoers grooving to his Eurodance hits, setting the tone for a night of non-stop dancing. His set list includes “Future Brain”, “Looking for Love” and the hit performed by Paul Lekakis but written by Tom, “Boom, Boom, Boom”.
As the evening progresses, the amphitheater pulses with the sounds of Soave and C-Bank, whose performances keep the energy levels soaring. The Flirts take the stage next, treating the audience to a nostalgic trip down memory lane with their signature synth-pop sound and infectious hooks.
As the venue begins to really fill in, Coro takes the stage and raises the bar. In signature fashion, he begins his set acapella, with fans singing, note for note, along with him. Coro, who grew up in South Florida, is always a fan favorite. His performance is further enhanced by his two dancers, Kys and Danielle, providing the entertaining visuals to go along with the beats and rhythms.
The first half of this amazing show raps up with 90’s hitmakers, Snap!. Led by Turbo, this trio really gets the crowd on their feet with their power hits, “Rhythm is a Dancer” and the anthemic and iconic hit, that still receives a lot of airplay today, “The Power”. Charlie Rodriguez addresses the crowd sporting some brand new and custom kicks by Mario Sagastume, with the Charlie Rodriguez Live Entertainment logo and having Freestyle labeled across the heel.
While the party is going on onstage, there is just as big a party backstage. As one of the biggest Freestyle events of the year, thus far, the Spring Flashback Music Festival attracts a lot of attention. If you are backstage at this event, you are rubbing elbows with Tito Puente Jr., Ray Guell, Miami DJ/Producer and radio personality, Felix Sama, Miami radio queen, Jade Alexander, the legendary Power 96 Program Director, Funk E Frank and so many more personalities that have helped put Miami music on the map.
As the fans have had an opportunity to catch their breath and the night progresses, the amphitheater transforms into a dance floor extravaganza, with Cynthia delivering a high-octane performance that has the crowd on their feet, dancing and singing along to every beat. Brenda K Starr brings her powerhouse vocals to the stage, captivating the audience with her soulful ballad. “I Still Believe” and the energy of both her freestyle hits and salsa music.
As the stars glitter overhead, Lime takes the stage, transporting attendees back to the heyday of disco with their grooves and shimmering synths. From the very first notes of “Babe We’re Going To Love Tonight” through the powerhouse hit, “Your Love”, the energy level of Joy and Rob, as well as the crowd, is at 150%. Judy Torres follows suit, delivering a set filled with dance hits that have the crowd singing along at the top of their lungs.
As the night begins to reach its climax, George Lamond takes to the stage, opening with his cover of the iconic Journey song, “Don’t Stop Believin’”. He delivers a performance that is equal parts energy and nostalgia. His smooth vocals leave a lasting impression, setting the stage for the remaining two acts of the evening.
Just ahead of the headliners is the dynamic duo, La Bouche, whose infectious energy and powerhouse vocals has the crowd in a frenzy. Hits like “Be My Lover” and “Sweet Dreams” bring the house down, as concertgoers dance and sing along, unwilling to let the night end. As La Bouche wraps up their set, Charlie Rodriguez, who has now made recognizing and celebrating our service members, first responders and law enforcement a part of every one of his shows, joins them on stage. Lane McCray proceeds to sing Lee Greenwood’s “Proud To Be An American” while Charlie waves a large American flag on stage. All in attendance celebrate the moment on their feet and saluting the flag .
The night culminates with headliners, TKA. The trio, who recently replaced one of their long time members, C-Los, take the stage by storm. Their freestyle classics have the entire venue standing, dancing, cheering and more. K7’s solo music adds a little taste of hip hop and swing. The TKA dancers add another layer of entertainment as they bust the moves.
As the final notes fade into the night, it is clear that the Spring Flashback Music Festival delivers an unforgettable experience for all in attendance. Amidst the pulsating beats, the shimmering lights, and the infectious energy, it is a night that celebrates the timeless magic of freestyle and dance music, leaving attendees with memories to last a lifetime.
A show of this magnitude and the number of fans in attendance is a testament to the staying power of the Freestyle music movement. Fans appreciate that many of the artists that they grew up with are still out there performing. It is a constant. On any given weekend there are a slew of Freestyle artists performing across the US, be it Miami, New York, Philly, Chicago, San Antonio or LA. Freestyle music is here to stay, and at the same time moving forward with the number of new Freestyle artists that are releasing new and great material, that are sure to become this generation’s classics.
