Hampton, VA — Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Journey exceeded all expectations in every way for Final Frontier Tour 2026 at Hampton Coliseum. This legendary band and its music are timeless and needed no opening act. But I didn’t expect warp-speed energy from start to finish, stellar musicianship from every band member, commanding vocals, and lighting that was out of this world. Naturally, the packed coliseum was starstruck, singing along with all the hits.

Some say, “Well, Journey is not the same without former lead singer Steve Perry.” While that may be true, Arnel Pineda, who is 58 years young, showed off his incredible vocal range and was a supernova of nonstop energy. He jumped off the drum riser multiple times, covered every inch of the stage, interacted with every band member, twirled the mic stand like he was in zero gravity, smiled the entire time, and ventured into the audience to celebrate the fans. Very few rockstars could match his relentless energy and vocal prowess for this two-hour set.

The most talented person on the stage was definitely the only remaining founding Journey band member, Neal Schon. This master guitarist played every note flawlessly, just as it was recorded throughout the band’s 53-year history. His hands and fingers moved with the precision and agility of a twenty-year-old, and he performed like a veteran rockstar. He understandably received much of the spotlight.

Schon and Pineda were far from the only highlights of the concert—the depth of talent across the lineup was on full display. Nearly every musician stepped into the spotlight with both vocal and instrumental showcases, underscoring the band’s collective mastery. Drummer Deen Castronovo delivered lead vocals on four songs, keyboard veteran and 45-year Journey member Jonathan Cain took the mic for two, and keyboardist Jason Derlatka contributed three vocal features. These moments not only celebrated each musician’s artistry but also gave Arnel Pineda crucial breathing room during a demanding 25-song set—making his vocal endurance even more remarkable. You can see the entire setlist below, which included ALL the hits.
