Hollywood, Fl – It’s a Sunday night, where would you rather be? Home, tucked into bed, watching the Grammy’s or at the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, watching the final show of the Latin American leg of the Def Leppard and Motley Crue world tour? Those who play the odds will likely choose the latter and will be glad they did.
On the tail end of their Latin America tour, Motley Crue and Def Leppard chose to add just one more stop at the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, home of the iconic Guitar Hotel.
On the heels of the Daylight Savings Time change, it appears, at least early on, that most would miss the opening of the show. However, by the time Motely Crue hits the stage, in some miraculous fashion, it appears that there is not an empty seat in the house. Even the General Admission area on the floor is packed.
Vince and company open the show with “Wild Side” and never look back. They deliver at least 90 minute of solid, balls to wall rock-n-roll as fans expect. The Crue plays through a great set list ( see below ) which includes songs from their early albums, much to the delight of the lifelong Motley Crue fan.
The Motley Crue lineup, now modified after the announcement that Mick Mars would no longer tour, includes Vince Neil (Vocals), Nikki Sixx (Bass), Tommy Lee (Drums) and John 5 (Guitar). John 5 has the difficult task of filling the void left by Mars. Fear not. If you have to find someone to replace Mick Mars, John 5 is your guy. His pedigree included work with David Lee Roth, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie and others. During his guitar solo right about mid-show, John 5 proceeds to play the first bars of the Star-Spangled Banner with his teeth. This is followed by a rock in roll medley of a “Rock n Roll Part 2“, “Smokin in the Boys Room“, “Helter Skelter“, “Anarchy” and “Blitzkrieg Rock“. John 5 helps close out the Motley Crue set by using a bow during the intro to “Kickstart My Heart“. All in all, it is a decent showing by Motley Crue, sans all of the theatrics of the motorized drum cages with roller coaster tracks and the Nikki Sixx flame thrower.
After a brief intermission, fans hurry back in to the hall as the lights dim. Def Leppard opens their headlining set with “Take What You Want” off of their latest album called Diamond Star Halos, released in May of 2022. Joe Elliot tells the crowd that this “impromptu” show is the last show on the Latin American leg of their World Tour that will see both bands travelling throughout Europe and then ending with several shows in the US through August 2023.
Their set on this evening includes two additional songs off of Diamond Star Halos including the energetic “Kick” and the balladesque “This Guitar“, which Joe Elliot dedicates to Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynyrd who passed away on March 5th, just one week before this show. The rest of the night includes all of the Def Leppard songs that fans know and love including “Rock of Ages“, “Photograph“, “Bringing on the Heartbreak“, “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and many others. Def Leppard’s lineup includes Rick Savage (bass, backing vocals), Joe Elliott (lead vocals),Rick Allen (drums), Phil Collen (guitar, backing vocals), and Vivian Campbell (guitar, backing vocals).
Overall, the show is great. This is an opportunity to see two legendary rock n roll bands. The Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood provides a much more intimate experience versus the stadium tour of 2022. The venue is state of the art, and for all intents and purposes, new. For those looking for some extra curricular activity, pre or post show, the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood has endless choices including gaming, be it tables or slots, award winning restaurants, great shopping and nightlife with a myriad of bars and clubs to suit every musical taste. The show delivered on expectations and should certainly be on fans bucket list to see when it comes near them.
