Norfolk, VA – Cannibal Corpse brings a tour de force lineup to decimate Norfolk, Virginia including Italy’s horror film themed Fulci, Ocean City, Maryland’s powerviolence/grindcore band Full of Hell and Richmond, Virginia’s crossover/thrash masters Municipal Waste.
Kicking off the night was Fulci, one of two bands on this tour package I saw for the first time. A number of my friends hyped these guys up and for me, I thought they played good death metal, but there was nothing that grabbed my attention. You should check them out, don’t let what I said deter you.

What did get my attention was Full of Hell, it has been some time since I saw a good powerviolence/grindcore band come up and kick everybody’s asses. Like Fulci, this is my first time seeing them and they blew me away. They wasted no time in whipping the crowd into a headbanging and moshing frenzy!!! I definitely recommend that if you haven’t seen or heard Full of Hell, what’s stopping you?

The first time I saw Municipal Waste live was in 2010 at a place called Hangar 09 and I was beaned with a 55 gallon plastic trash can before the show started. This is one of many memories I have of seeing them live. For this tour, the stage is setup to look like the lab in “The Art of Partying” album cover. And the party started once Tony Foresta yelled out to the crowd. Moshing and crowd surfing was the order of the day as the Waste tore through their set. What a number of people didn’t realize is that if you crowd surfed, you would be thrown out rather than be allowed to run back and join the crowd. I have attended shows at The NorVA since 2007 and this is the first time I ever saw them throw people out for crowd surfing. Security notified the band and Tony made a statement to the effect of “If you get caught crowd surfing you will be sent to the principal’s office”. This definitely changed the dynamic of the night and the crowd resorted to headbanging and moshing for the rest of the set. I think someone from The NorVA should have made an announcement before the show started, and while there are signs saying crowd surfing isn’t allowed, I think they should have made the crowd aware they would be enforcing it.

Despite the change in mood, Cannibal Corpse brought the crowd back to life with the dual guitars of Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse/Hate Eternal/ex-Morbid Angel/ex-Ripping Corpse) and Brandon Ellis (Cannibal Corpse/ex-Cannabis Corpse/ex-The Black Dahlia Murder/ex-Arsis/ex-Exodus) and the vocals of George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher. Playing at least one song from most of their discography, there was something for every fan to headbang or mosh to. For me, this was one of the top ten shows of 2025 I attended.
