Asheville, NC – The Orange Peel was packed for a Monday night, SOLD OUT show fueled by charged declarations and filled with all the “Rebel Girl” feeling. Originally emerging in the early 1990s, Bikini Kill was in town and fans were ready to take in all the strength and boldness this punk rock band were on tap to fully deliver.

Original members Kathleen Hanna, Tobi Vail, and Kathi Wilcox, along with touring guitarist Sara Landeau, took the stage and wasted no time setting the place ablaze (that is, after some brief stretching by Hanna). Launching into the evening with “New Radio”, followed by “This is Not a Test”, and through a 20+ song set list, the band seemed to harness their hardcore-influenced, earned years of wisdom (the pioneers of the riot grrrl movement) to energize a sense of community and reinforce the importance inclusion to drive greater change.

The crowd was clearly behind the message. The outpourings were raw and still very much relevant. The cumulative energy resulted in a visual proclamation of being saved by punk rock, which reverberated around the venue…soul sister, rebel girl
