Amsterdam, The Netherlands – For years, British art-rock quartet Everything Everything have captivated audiences with their eclectic and infectious sound. This year marks the tenth anniversary of their acclaimed album Get to Heaven, and to celebrate, the band are currently touring across Europe, the UK, and soon Australia. Tonight, they take the stage at Amsterdam’s Paradiso, and the excitement in the crowd is already palpable long before the lights go down.
For this anniversary tour, the band have invited Low Island to open on several dates. Regular readers of Digital Beat Magazine might recognize the name — the band played their own headline show here in the Netherlands just two weeks ago (read our review here). They kicked off their set with “spit it out”, immediately grabbing the audience’s attention. Songs like “once in a while” and “little bird”, from their latest album bird, showed how their sound keeps developing — a clear and rhythmic mix of electronics and guitars. Fan favourites such as “Who’s Having the Greatest Time?” and “Search Box” also made an appearance, and it’s clear their popularity is growing; I could already hear people around me singing along. Even though their set was short, it felt well put together and energetic. They didn’t need much talking between songs — the music spoke for itself. It was a strong, focused performance that got the crowd nicely warmed up for Everything Everything.
Dressed in matching yellow-orange suits and All Stars, Everything Everything took the stage. The set opened with “To the Blade”, the first track from Get to Heaven. It’s a strong opener for both the album and a live show, immediately setting the tone with its explosive chorus. This was followed by the energetic “Blast Doors”. Every track from the album was played, and yet the audience seemed almost surprised — or at least visibly thrilled — each time a new song began.
Throughout the set, the band played with tight precision and energy, with each member clearly in sync. Lead singer Jonathan Higgs delivered the lyrics with confidence and conviction, effortlessly navigating the complex melodies and rapid tempo changes. Even the more experimental tracks felt immediate and engaging, with electronic elements and guitar-driven intensity blending seamlessly.
With “Brainchild”, the band’s layered arrangements and creativity shone through, with frequent and unpredictable tempo changes. Another highlight was “The Wheel (Is Turning Now)”, whose final electronic section, driven by a pulsing bassline, was hypnotic. “Regret” remained a clear fan favourite, with the crowd singing along loudly. Another standout moment came during the energetic “Spring / Sun / Winter / Dread”, when the audience sang so loudly that Higgs didn’t even have to sing the chorus himself — he simply held the microphone toward the crowd.
During the encore, the band delivered the bombastic “Hapsburg Lipp”, followed by “No Reptiles”, which was sung along to with full force, before closing the night with the final track, “Warm Healer”.
Even ten years on, Get to Heaven remains popular with fans. Its themes of societal tension, uncertainty, and the pressures of modern life still resonate, giving tonight’s performance a sense of urgency that feels as relevant today as when the album was first released. The intensity and layered complexity of the music, reflecting the album’s themes of anxiety and social upheaval, came through in every song, making the performance feel both powerful and meaningful.
Tonight’s performance at Paradiso was a reminder of why Everything Everything continues to captivate audiences around the world, with a set full of energy, creativity, and expertly performed tracks from Get to Heaven.
