Richmond, VA – It is hard to imagine that season three of the Belvedere Series in Richmond, VA, has come to an end. Having been somewhat involved with the progression through the years, I think it is safe to say that it is amazing how far it has come in such a short period of time. The season three finale, highlighting the two-time Grammy-award winning ATTACCA Quartet blew old and young away as their performance got not one, but two standing ovations from the June 13, 2025 Ryan Recital Hall audience.
This review and commentary is not necessarily for those who think classical and orchestral performances are the bomb. You already know the power, tranquility, and the passion that this sort of performance can deliver, whether in a salon concert in a historic Richmond home or in a nearly sold out recital hall. This review is for those who, for reasons that are beyond me, would not put such a performance on their ‘must see and hear’ list as their exposure and / or experiences with the genre has been minimal.
The night started out with founder and Artist Director, Ingrid Keller introducing the series and the quartet. As Amy Schroeder (violin), Domenic Salerni (violin), Nathan Schram (viola), and Andrew Yee (cello) took to the stage with instruments in hand, it was obvious that the quartet was made of four unique individuals. Watching them all come together was phenomenal.
As I listened to the performance through the lens, it was clear that Andrew was the most flamboyant of them all, as Andrew’s body language and hair flips would make any metal musician feel inferior… second fiddle (or cello in this case) perhaps.

Nathan, on the other hand, wore the emotion of the music on his sleeve. His body language and facial expressions told us all what the music made him feel. It was a delightful experience.
Domenic seemed to be the most casual of the quartet (again, this is only my perception). This music was his passion and he was relaxed as he let it tell its story.
Of the four (sorry if I am wrong), Amy seemed to be the most reserved. Focused on the music, it was all about the message it would send. No, glitter, not glamour, just strong delivery. Ironically, after the performance, two of the three members mingling with the crowd at the reception agreed that of the four, Amy was the most responsible.
The night included String Quartet in G Major, op. 54, no. 1, Hob III: 58 by Joseph Hayden; Three Essays by Caroline Shaw; and String Quartet No. 6 in F minor, op. 80 by Felix Mendelssohn.
As the quartet hit their final note, the audience rose to their feet, giving them a heart felt standing O. After exiting the stage, the quartet returned to perform a traditional Norwegian tune, “Old Reinlender from Sonndalaafter“, which they again brought the audience to its feet.
The night was not over, as the audience gathered in the atrium area after the performance to enjoy a little champaign or some sparkling juice and mingle with each other than three of the four members of the quartet as well as Ingrid.
