Silver Spring, MD Cavalera brought the heavy to Silver Spring with support from Oakland, California death metal masters Necrot, California thrash/hardcore purveyors Dead Heat, and DC area hardcore band Backlash.

No thanks to Beltway traffic, I got to the venue in the middle of Backlash‘s set. Prior to the show announcement I had never heard of Backlash. There is not much online in the way of information about them, other than they are back together and playing shows again. I think they lacked energy and attitude, the two characteristics I expect in a hardcore band.

Second time in less than five months that I have seen Dead Heat live, this time as a four piece. They kicked things into high gear with a set of songs mostly from their 2023 EP “Endless Torment” and 2021’s full length “World At War”. For some of my friends, it was their first time seeing Dead Heat live. These guys are good at what they do and if you get the chance to see them, do it.

This was my first time seeing Necrot and all I can say is “they killed it”. Their set consisted of songs from their three full lengths “Lifeless Birth”, “Mortal” and “Blood Offerings” and they were tight!!!! If you haven’t seen Necrot live, you are definitely missing out on some killer death metal!!!

It is not often that a band takes you back to the beginning of their career and play songs from albums. It is even interesting that they go into the studio and rerecord their second album “Schizophrenia” and take them on the road. That is exactly with the Cavalera brothers did. For fans of early Sepultura, this is a dream come true. Recorded with a ferocity not imagined when they were originally recorded, the Cavalera brothers along with Travis Stone on guitar and Igor Amadeus Cavalera on bass bring the fury. I haven’t seen Max so fired up as I did Friday night. This is the show you want to see, if you see nothing else in 2025, see this!!!!
