Chesapeake, Virginia – “The Greatest Rock N’ Roll Band In The World” the Supersuckers makes a stop at Riffhouse Pub for an evening of rock, punk and psychobilly with tour support from Nashville’s Volk, Norfolk’s The Dual Gravitons and Virginia Beach’s Mr. Fang and the Dark Tones.
The only band I have seen live in this particular lineup is the Supersuckers, all of the others I was seeing for the first time. Kicking off the evening was Dr. Fang and the Dark Tones, a horror based psychobilly band out of Virginia Beach. I haven’t seen or heard any psychobilly for some time so I really enjoyed them. They had recently made a short East Coast run and this was the last show after a busy Halloween season.
Facebook|InstagramNext up was The Dual Gravitons, a rock band from Norfolk, Virginia and prior to the show announcement, I had never heard of these guys. While a lot of people from the area came to see them and thought they were good, I thought they weren’t the right fit for this show. To me, their music didn’t have the energy that I thought it should of had.

I looked at various photos of Volk online and wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. A band that describes themselves as “thrash and twang” definitely has my attention. Guitarist and vocalist Chris Lowe danced onstage and through the crowd as drummer and lead vocalist Eleot Reich keeping time and singing. Volk is a lot of fun in a two person package, if you haven’t seen them live or listened to any of their music, you should!!!

Most people I talked to about this show had never heard of the Supersuckers so I told them to listen to Motherfuckers Be Trippin’ or Must’ve Been High to get a taste of what they are about. I discovered the band in 2003 when I used to look for music on CD Baby and liked what I heard. I wanted to catch this show because the last time I saw them live was October 31, 2011 when they were supporting the Reverend Horton Heat. Starting their set with a cover of AC/DC’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll Singer” they were all business. Of course a Supersuckers set isn’t complete unless they play at least one song from Motherfuckers Be Trippin’. This was a damn good show and if you get a chance to see them live, do it!!!
