Chesapeake, VA – New Orleans based sludge veterans Eyehategod and blackened death metal masters Goatwhore decimate Riffhouse Pub in a sold-out show with local and regional support from BB Gunns, Til The Casket Drops and Hellion Child.
Due to some unspecified time crunch, none of the support bands were able to play their entire set. The question I have is why have five bands on a Wednesday night show?
BB Gunns is a band up until recently I had never heard of and consist of three guys that look like the kids you would find playing in a garage somewhere. They sounded good but their set as I previously mentioned was cut short.
Til The Casket Drops are Hampton Roads metal veterans I haven’t seen play live in years. It was great to catch up on what we all had missed since the last time we saw each other and throw down again, even if it was only a few songs.
Hellion Child is a band out of Richmond, Virginia that I have heard some things about but until this show I had never seen them live. They played an abbreviated set of songs from their EP “Infernal Ascension”. They sounded incredible and if you get the chance to see them live, do so.
It is no secret that I am a huge Goatwhore fan and this is the first time I have seen them live in I believe six years.After solving some sound issues they proceeded to lay waste to the place, the mosh pit was running and Ben Falgoust was directing. The band’s set consisted of mostly songs from their October 2022 album “Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven” and other recent efforts and managed to squeeze in ‘Sky Inferno’ from 2003’s “Funeral Dirge for the Rotting Sun”. I have said for years there is no such thing as a bad Goatwhore set, and this performance was one of the best I have ever been to.

If you are a fan of older Eyehategod, this is the tour for you!!! The energy level of the crowd changed from moshing to headbanging and hoisting their drinks as the band played. Many in the crowd have been waiting for this for a long time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
