Indianapolis, IN – It’s been a run of festivals this season for Rob Zombie and his band featuring John 5 (guitar, backing vocals), Piggy D (bass, backing vocals) and Ginger Fish (drums) including the inaugural Upheaval Festival, the recent Inkcarnation Music & Tattoo Festival and the Blue Ridge Rock Festival, but Friday night they made Indianapolis fans feel extra special by being the only “non-festival” stop of their summer run.
It was a hot and sticky night in Indy but that didn’t dampen any of the energy coming off the stage! From the moment the lights came up and the video screens came on, it was a full frontal assault on the senses as Zombie and crew blew through a solid hour set of old and new – mixing in several cuts off the new album, The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy currently out now via Nuclear Blast, while still getting in a good mixture of fan favorites like “Living Dead Girl”, “House of 1000 Corpses” and White Zombie hits thrown in to boot. I must admit the highlight for me was when Zombie paid homage to his friend Johnny Ramone (who had passed almost 17 years to the day of the evening’s show) kicking into a smashing cover of “Blitzkrieg Pop” followed by a blistering cover of The Beatles “Helter Skelter” only to close out the night with “Dragula”.
