The Sugarhill Gang Takes it Back to the Old School at Gulfstream Park in Miami, Fl

Miami, Fl – The iconic Sport Of Kings Theater at Gulfstream Park transforms into a time machine that transports fans back to the birth of hip-hop. On October 21, 2023, the legendary pioneers of hip-hop, The Sugarhill Gang, bring their talents to the MIA.

The evening is primed and hosted by local dj and producer, Felix Sama. The mix of R&B, classic rap and hip-hop energizes the crowd and gets them ready for the main event. The show begins with a touch of comedy by comedian Rodney Badger

Rodney’s set is followed by more timeless jams by DJ Sama and fans get back into the groove. The crowd is quite eclectic from an generation perspective, spanning ages from 20’s through 70’s. But tonight, age is just a number. For all intents and purposes, everyone is “hip-hop” years old.

Hip Hop fans enjoy one heck of an old-school party by the Sugarhill Gang. Master Gee, tells the story of how it all started in basement parties in New York City.  No one brings it like the legendary rappers. In addition to playing several of the songs that put hip-hop on the map, like “Apache” and “8th Wonder”, the Sugarhill Gang also takes a moment to pay homage to those hip-hop artists that are no longer with us featuring a medley of songs from the artists with a special tribute to Prince, with a condensed cover version of “Purple Rain.”

The show ends on a high note with an extended version of “Rapper’s Delight.” The crowd’s energy is electric, and it is clear that, even after all these years, this song remains an anthem for a generation, and then some.

As the lights dim and the Sugarhill Gang bids farewell, they leave behind an audience that experiences a true hip-hop pilgrimage. The Sport Of Kings Theater witnesses a remarkable evening, a testament to the enduring power of the Sugarhill Gang and their role in shaping the musical landscape. This concert is not just a performance; it is a celebration of the history of hip-hop and the indelible mark left by these pioneers. It is a night that fans, young and old, will remember for years to come.
