Steve Hackett Celebrates Foxtrot’s Fiftieth Anniversary In Utrecht

Utrecht, The Netherlands – It´s only been a little over a year since Steve Hackett last performed in the Netherlands, but he´s already back with another tour! To celebrate Genesis’s Foxtrot fiftieth anniversary Steve Hackett and his band are currently touring across Europe and will visit North America later this year.

The show started strong with “Ace Of Wands” from the album Voyage Of The Acolyte. Followed by the more recently released “The Devil’s Cathedral”. From the moment the band started playing it was clear that this would be a night to remember! The audience was blown away, particularly with the instrumental “Shadow Of The Hierophant” where the rousing bass can be felt through you. And this was only part one of the evening…

For the second part of the evening, the album Foxtrot was played in its entirety. Starting with ”Watcher Of The Skies” singer Nad Sylvan appeared on a platform on the stage to add some extra dramatic effect. “Watcher Of The Skies” has always been one of my favorite Genesis songs and the band made it sound marvelous tonight! Throughout the show, it is once more clear how talented these musicians are. It is also great to see how much fun they still take out of making the music. And they also transfer that enthusiasm to the audience. Steve Hackett and his band manage to ensure that the audience sings along loud one moment and listens breathlessly and silently the next moment. Especially when Steve Hackett plays “Horizons” solo, nobody seemed to want to make a sound. “Supper’s Ready”, on the other hand, is immediately received with loud cheers.

Each member of the band has a moment in which he can excel. But for me, the guitar solo in the wonderful “Firth Of Fifth” remains a major highlight. There is so much emotion in the guitar style that Steve Hackett is known for. The set ended with an epic drum solo from Craig Blundell followed by “Los Endos”.

Steve Hackett will continue touring Europe till mid-July and the North America tour will begin in October. For more info and tickets click here.
