Richmond, VA – Yes, dreams can come true… December 12, 2024 was a very special night for a packed Tin Pan in Richmond, VA. The sold out crowd, that had flocked from the four corners of world to eat, drink, and be merry, were treated to a wonderful night of Kevin Costner accolades and tales of Pumpkin Spice, delivered by the master himself, Puddles Pity Party

Puddles wasted no time honoring Kevin, as the show opened with introductory cameos by the legend, as messages of encouragement and comradery flashed across the screen. We were all ready to be treated to a show of Puddles’ originals, written spontaneously shortly after he heard them on the radio. Let music roll!!

A figure such as Puddles could not get to where he has gone without chasing some rainbows. He said it himself, “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows”… and as we could see on the screen, sometimes he came quite close to catching them.

Showing his musical diversity, Puddles grabbed a guitar and with puppies on the big screen he told us, “I Want You to Want Me” leading into the first commercial of the night. It was a coffee break of sorts. Beware of Pumpkin Spice.

To be clear, a Puddles’ show attracts some elite musicians. This show was no exceptions, as in dire need of a guitarist to accompany him on the “Crazy Train“, he was able to find a young virtuoso. Leading her from the audience to the stage, the pair teamed up, unrehearsed, and delivered a very memorable performance.

In all seriousness, up to this point, this had to be one of the best all around performances I have taken in over the past couple years. It contained wonderful vocals, fun covers, massive audience interaction, and just an overall escape into the life of Puddles. The Tin Pan crowd was having a blast.

After a seasonal video, with Puddles watching, he played a dual role in a fun cover of “Space Oddity” followed by a obligatory Christmas song, “The Little Drummer Boy“. We then got to hear him  belt one of the songs helped launch his career on America’s Got Talent. Of course, that would be “Chandelier“!

It was time once again to peruse the talented audience for assistance. No, a musician was not needed this time around, he needed a stand in for a bottle of Tequila for “Estoy sentado aquí“.

Did I say this show was awesome?!

The night was not just fun and games as there was an educational element. There was an insightful presentation on how pumpkin spice is made as well as the many uses for it. If you ever had any questions about this fall delicacy, catching a Puddles’ show will certainly give you “Something to Pumpkin About“.

Shortly after, his tribute to Kevin Costner went into overdrive. With a great Zepplinesque version of the “Stairway to Gilligan’s Island” followed by “My Heart Will Go On“, Kevin love filled n the air.

As the night wound down, he finished up with “If I Can Dream” followed by a standing O. Once the set was finished, he hung around, posing with fans to give them one last memory of a wonderful night.

As we stood in the line to bid Puddles adieu, the audience buzz was amazing. Clearly, all had a wonderful time and all now had a new found love for Mr. Costner. I think it is also safe to say that some will never look at at a pumpkin spice latte quite the same again.

What is in store for Puddles fans in the new year? As it turns out, Puddles will be touring with Weird Al starting in June. This will be a tour made in heaven!!

Dave Pearson is based out of Richmond, VA by way of Hayward, WI. He has long had a passion for music. Growing up in rural Wisconsin, he rocked out to the likes of Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, and The Lettermen. Then, one Saturday night, being the rebel he was born to be, he caught an Alice Cooper interview (it may have been on The Midnight Special) and saw him perform, “Welcome to My Nightmare”. Dave was hooked on Rock and Roll (and many other genres as well). Dave has enjoyed (amateur) photography to some degree most of his adult life. Recently Dave started to apply his event photography skills in various music settings with success. He finds that photographing a performance gives him a much greater appreciation for the artist.
