Sunrise, Fl – It’s a warm, muggy and humid April night in South Florida and the atmosphere inside the Amerant Bank Arena is nothing short of electric. The crowd pulses with anticipation. Tonight marks the 25th anniversary celebration of “The Sickness“, the debut album that catapulted Disturbed into heavy metal stardom—and fans from across the state have come to relive it, one song at a time. But before David Draiman and crew take the stage, a pair of high-octane performances from Nothing More and Daughtry fuel the crowd ahead of the pyro spectacle that is Disturbed on the 25th anniversary tour of the “The Sickness“.
Nothing More hits the stage, igniting the evening with a visceral sonic boom. They set the tone for an explosive evening on the 25th anniversary tour of The Sickness with Disturbed and Daughtry. Known for their visceral energy and emotionally charged performances, Nothing More wastes no time grabbing the crowd by the collar and yanking them into their sonic vortex. Jonny Hawkins(vocals)—bare-chested and covered in war paint—commands attention from the first second, his primal screams and intense physicality immediately setting the tone. Backing him are Mark Vollelunga(guitar), Daniel Oliver(bass) and Ben Anderson(drums), forming a tight, industrial-alt-metal unit that brings thunderous precision.
Touring in support of their latest release, CARNAL, the band wastes no time showing off their explosive chemistry. Hawkins performs barefoot and shirtless for the entire set. Opening with the brooding and atmospheric “House of Sand,” the band dials up a cinematic tension, setting a moody foundation that erupts with the explosive drive of “If It Doesn’t Hurt.” A cool moment happens when David Draiman joins Jonny while performing “Angel.” The anthemic “Freefall” adds lift, propelling the crowd into full engagement. Their performance is met with raucous approval, proving that Nothing More isn’t just riding the wave—they’re reshaping it.
Next up is Daughtry. Daughtry storms the stage, delivering a high-octane set in direct support of Disturbed on the 25th anniversary tour for The Sickness. Far from a warm-up act, Chris Daughtry and company bring an arena-caliber performance that proves they’ve not only endured, but evolved. The shift in energy is palpable but powerful. Frontman Chris Daughtry(vocals) enters while the intensity builds as they tear into “The Reckoning”, his gravel-tinged voice delivering raw emotional weight from the first note. He’s joined by Brian Craddock(guitar), Josh Steely(guitar), Marty O’Brien(bass), Jeremy Schaffer(drums), and Elvio Fernandes(keyboard/rhythm guitar/vocals).
Daughtry masterfully bridges the gap between arena rock anthems and intimate confessionals. “Heavy Is the Crown” delivers booming choruses, while “Home” pulls the emotional reins. The crowd responds enthusiastically as the first notes of Journey’s “Seperate Ways” play. Chris’ voice is every bit as haunting and heroic as it was during his American Idol beginnings, and the crowd responds with full-throated appreciation.
The house lights drop. A guttural rumble rolls over the PA. The screen behind the stage flashes with static and early 2000s imagery. The musical lead into “Voices” spins the anxious crowd into a frenzy. Disturbed takes the stage—and just like that, we’re transported 25 years back in time.
David Draiman(vocals), Dan Donegan(guitar), John Moyer(bass), and Mike Wengren(drums) look and sound like a band on a mission—not just to relive The Sickness, but to reassert its legacy. The first half of the set is a full-album performance of their 2000 debut, delivered in track order, with all the bite and bluster it deserves. Highlights include a bone-crushing “Stupify” and the chaotic catharsis of “The Game”, along with the anthemic “Down with the Sickness“. David’s son Samuel joins him on stage and performs “Want,” alongside his father. A very well received surprise was having Nonpoint’s Elias Soriano joining Disturbed to perform their Tears for Fears cover of “Shout.” As they wrap of the “Sickness” portion of the show, Disturbed closes the set with David receiving the shock of his life in a replica of an electric chair reminiscent of Florida’s own, Old Sparky.
After the full Sickness experience, the band dives into hits from across their discography, including fan favorites, “Indestructible“, “Bad Man,” and “Land of Confusion.” The second half opens with “I Will Not Break.” By the time the final notes of “The Sound of Silence” ring out, fans are in awe of the caliber of this show. David then brings a couple of fans on stage and there is a wedding proposal. David invites them to watch Disturbed perform “The Light” before closing out the evening with “Inside The Fire.” By nights end, it’s clear that Disturbed isn’t just honoring their past—they’re forging a powerful future.
