Gente De Zona Headlines the City of Hialeah’s Centennial Celebration!

Hialeah, Fl – The skies crackle with rain, lightning and thunder as the City of Hialeah kicks off its 100-year Anniversary Celebration at Milander Park, a venue steeped in community pride and musical legacy. Milander has long been the heartbeat of local festivals, but tonight it transforms into a storm-defying sanctuary of rhythm and resilience.

Typical summer afternoon rain and lightning delays the start of the show, but the crowd—umbrellas raised, ponchos on—refuses to give up, even after they are asked to evacuate the venue for the duration of the storm. They’ve come for a night of Latin legends and Freestyle music, and they’re not leaving without dancing in the rain.

Reflections Productions, the city’s go-to for high-end event tech, rises to the challenge. Their state-of-the-art lighting cuts through the storm like neon poetry, while their sound system delivers every beat with stadium-grade clarity. It’s a sonic triumph that turns a weather delay into dramatic buildup.

The evening opens with Ricky Valido, the Cuban cowboy whose country-Latin fusion sets a soulful tone. His set includes a collection of original songs, drawing cheers from fans who see their bicultural lives reflected in every lyric. Ricky is backed up by his band, the Hialeah Hillbillies.

Betty-Dee of Sweet Sensation follows, her voice soaring through the mist with freestyle classics like “Hooked on You,” “Sincerely Yours,” and “Never Let you Go.” Her charisma is magnetic, pulling Gen Xers and freestyle diehards into a nostalgic trance.

C-Bank keeps the energy pulsing with “One More Shot,” “I Won’t Stop Loving You,” and “Perfect.” His synth-driven set is sleek and kinetic, a reminder of freestyle’s enduring power. Her outfit carries on the Ricky Valido theme, sporting a pink cowgirl hat.

Sequal, Miami’s own freestyle duo, brings sultry harmonies and dancefloor heat with “She Don’t Want You,” and “I’m Over You.” Their chemistry is electric, their sound unmistakably local.

Then comes a moment of cultural reverence: the Celia Cruz All-Stars featuring Lena Burke take the stage just as the rain begins to ease. Burke’s renditions of “La Vida Es Un Carnaval,” “Yerbero Moderno” and “Bemba Colorada” are both tribute and triumph.

Before the headliner take the stage, city dignitaries, including the mayor, take time to introduce special guests and make a special proclamation.  Representative Alex Rizzo announces that 49th Street—the main artery across Hialeah—will be renamed Celia Cruz Way, honoring the Queen of Salsa’s indelible mark on Cuban and Latin music.

But it’s Gente de Zona who turns the night into legend.

The Cuban reggaeton giants explode onto the stage with their latin flavor. Milander Park becomes a dance riot. Their set is a masterclass in crowd control, charisma, and cultural pride. Fans wave, stand shoulder to shoulder, and scream every lyric. Even the rain seems to surrender, giving way to a sky lit by pyrotechnics and cell phone screens.

Gente de Zona doesn’t just headline—they baptize the park in rhythm. Their performance is a declaration: Hialeah’s past is proud, its future is loud, and its heart beats to the sound of la música.
