Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin and Jinjer Take Back West Palm Beach, Fl on the Take Back Your Life Tour

West Palm Beach, FL Disturbed, currently on the Take Back your Life tour, makes a stop at the iThink Financial Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Fl on August 3, 2023. Southeast Florida is currently in one of the longest spells of non-stop heat in the state’s history with temperatures in the upper 90’s and the feels-like temperatures in the 110’s! Add to that the oppressive humidity and afternoon thunderstorms that occur like clockwork, and you have all the reason to want to stay indoors in the air conditioning. But hardcore fans pay no mind to the weather and show up in numbers, to one of the hottest shows in a long while.

Disturbed is supported by Ukrainian metal powerhouse, Jinjer, and also by Breaking Benjamin on the Take Back Your Life tour. The stage is set and the anticipation is palpable as the Ukrainian metalcore band Jinjer emerges onto the stage. Frontwoman Tatiana Shmaylyuk, a force of nature in her own right, immediately captures everyone’s attention with her mesmerizing presence. Additional members of Jinjer include Roman Ibramkhalilov(Guitar), Eugene Abdukhanov(Bass) and Vladislav Ulasevich(Drums).

Opening with “Perenial“, Jinjer unleashes a whirlwind of aggressive riffs, pounding drums, and intricate bass lines that sets the tone for the night. Tatiana’s vocal range is awe-inspiring, effortlessly transitioning from guttural growls to soaring clean melodies that send shivers down the spine. She commands the stage with captivating charisma, engaging the audience and encouraging them to headbang to their hearts’ content. The band showcases their musical prowess with tracks like “Ape“, “Vortex” and “Colossus“, leaving the crowd in awe of their musical skill and sheer intensity. The chemistry between the band members is undeniable, and their passion for their craft is infectious, leaving the crowd satisfied but begging for more by the end of their set.

Jinjer is followed by Breaking Benjamin, the Pennsylvania-based rockers known for their powerful vocals and emotionally charged performances. The band launches into an explosive rendition of “Failure” that sets the tone for their entire set. Breaking Benjamin band members include Benjamin Burnley(Vocals, Rhythm guitar), Jasen Rauch(Lead Guitar), Keith Wallen(Rhythm Guitar), Aaron Bruch(Bass) and Shaun Foist( Drums).

Throughout their set, Breaking Benjamin showcases their ability to seamlessly transition from heavier, high-energy tracks to more emotionally charged ballads like “Breath“. The emotional depth in Burnley’s voice captivates the audience, creating an intimate connection between the band and their fans. Breaking Benjamin wraps up their set with “The Diary of Jane” to which the audience sings along, creating a sense of unity and togetherness in the venue.

As Disturbed is getting ready to take the stage, the wet weather subsides. It is a bit cooler as the sun has set, but warm nonetheless. The Disturbed set is fire, both literally and figuratively, with the volume of pyro on the stage for what feels like the entire set. Disturbed opens with “Hey You“, off of their latest album, “Divisive“, a pounding anthem that sets the tone for the set that is yet to come. They follow this song with the mega-hit “Stupify“. The crowd whips into a frenzy as David Draiman delivers the vocals to perfection.

Disturbed continues delivering what can only be described as a mind melting performance, especially for those in the first dozen rows or so, given the nonstop flames hovering just above the stage. The evening does take a more somber tone as David Draiman speaks to the audience about friends he has lost to suicide like Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell, among others. The message follows a brief video that serves as a PSA for suicide prevention. David appeals to fans to be aware of, and available for anyone that is struggling with depression and/or addiction. Disturbed goes on to perform “”A Reason to Fight“, after which David shows his vulnerable side and speaks of his near brush with suicide earlier of 2023.

Disturbed’s members are David Draiman(Vocals), Dan Donegan(Guitar), John Moyer(Bass) and Mike Wengren(Drums). A highlight of the evening is the very anticipated performance of “The Sound of Silence”, in which the band is joined on stage by a string section and Mike Wengren on the grand piano, which not surprisingly, is on fire as well. The band also plays “The Light” with the audience heeding David’s call to flash their cell phone lights whenever he mentions the title words.

The evening culminates with “Unstoppable” of the 8th studio release, Divisive, in addition to “The Sickness and the appropriate “Inside the Fire”, which given the stage set, seems most appropriate. On the lawn of the amphitheater, now quite the slippery mess due to earlier wet weather, fans are in a frenzy as the mosh pit breaks out and bodies are stacking up on one another as it is near impossible to maintain one’s footing in the muddy mess. Fans walk away from this wet and sweaty night full of energy from a fantastic show from Jinger, Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed.
