Indianapolis, IN. – 90’s jam band Blues Traveler rolled into the Murat Theatre inside Old National Centre in Indianapolis last week to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their fourth studio album FOUR. Released in September 1994 on A&M Records, Four was a pivotal release for the band; accelerating them to the mainstream with hits like “Run-Around“, “Hook“, and “The Mountains Win Again“. The album has since been certified 6x Platinum (selling over 6 million records in the U.S. alone) according to the Recording Industry Association of America with “Run-Around” earning them a Grammy Award in 1995 for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group.

Blues Traveler features original band members John Popper (lead vocals, harmonica), Chan Kinchla (guitar), and Brendan Hill (drums) and joined by Tad Kinchla (bass, backing vocals) and Ben Wilson (keyboards, backing vocals) who joined the band in 1999 after the death of original bassist Bobby Sheehan. Thursday night’s show gave Indy fans some deep cuts off the album Four along with all the hits! There was also a few surprise covers thrown in that included an instrumental jam of Sabbath’sWar Pigs” and Van Halen’sHot for Teacher“; both tunes showing off the chops of drummer Brendan Hill. The night ended with an encore featuring “The Mountains Win Again” with Maggie Noelle from the opening act Magnolia Boulevard (more on Maggie and Magnolia Boulevard below).

Opening the night was a band out of Lexington, KY. named Magnolia Boulevard…And boy did they get the crowds attention. The band formed in 2017 and is a mixture of rock, blues and funk that features Maggie Noelle (lead vocals, guitar), Roddy Puckett (bass, backing vocals), Brandon Johnson (drums, backing vocals), Austin Lewis (guitar) and Ryan Allen (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals).

Magnolia Boulevard is currently out highlighting their latest EP Things Are Gonna Change. If you see this band come up on a show bill, make sure to check them out. From what I witnessed, we will be hearing more about this band in the near future – Highly recommend! In the mean time, check out the video for the titled song off their EP (below) and give them a listen on your favorite streaming platform.
