Philadelphia, PA – Better Than Ezra strolled into the sold-out World Café Live in Philly on a muggy, humid night Sunday, July 7, 2019 to “pass a good time,” as they say in New Orleans.
Andrew Duhon trio opened for Better Than Ezra with their own style of southern charm. A New Orleans native, Andrew Duhon, is a singer/ songwriter with a voice that emanates from the soul. In 2014 he released, ‘The Moorings’, and was nominated for a Grammy for ‘Best Engineered Album’. Andrew’s new record, False River, was released in May 2018.
New Orleans-based rock group, Better Than Ezra, had a stage presence that brought back memories of steamy evenings on Bourbon Street. The audience roared as they took their places on stage. Kevin Griffin, a wonderful storyteller, kept the packed house engaged throughout the night with his wit and humor, generating a very warm feeling as he guided the crowd through the night. This band has a dynamic range and is a must-see this summer.
Better Than Ezra originally formed in 1988 as a roots rock outfit with slight elements of country and punk. The current line up is: Kevin Griffin – lead vocals, guitar, piano (1988–present), Tom Drummond – bass guitar, backing vocals (1988–present), James Arthur Payne Jr. – guitar, keyboards, backing vocals (1996–present) and Michael Jerome – drums (2009–present). Together Now is the band’s eighth studio album.
