Greenville, SC – Just like the song goes…”Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” and the diesel train action that rolled into Greenville carried the debut visit of All Elite Wrestling (AEW)! For the first time ever, AEW would pack fans into the Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Saturday night for the live broadcast event, which included three championship matches. CM Punk savagely defended his “Real” World Championship against 2023 Owen Hart Tournament Winner Ricky Starks. The fierce challenge between TBS Champion Kris Statlander and “The OG Badass” Mercedes Martinez electrified the crowd. The AEW World Tag Team Championship was also at risk as FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) threw down with The Embassy’s Big Bill and “The Machine” Brian Cage.
The gripping fray also involved ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe vs. Serpentico, AEW World Trios Championship Open House Match! House of Black—Malakai Black, Buddy Matthews, & Brody King (c.) vs. Action Andretti, Darius Martin, & Lee Johnson, and Metalik vs. Bullet Club Gold’s “Switchblade” Jay White. There was certainly more than a little muscle to give fans what they needed, throughout the evening were echoes around the arena, “This is awesome! This is awesome!” Saturday night was most definitely more than alright.
