Richmond, VA – Boston’s technical death metal masters Revocation celebrating 20 years as a band brought the face-melting goodness to RVA on a Thursday night with support from New Jersey’s death metal/powerviolence outfit Weeping, Millford, Massachusetts death metal/hardcore band Fuming Mouth and Bavaria’s brutal death metal band Defeated Sanity.
Kicking things off was Weeping, one of three bands I would see live for the first time. They are described as death metal, hardcore and powerviolence, all I know is that they kick ass live!!! It took a few songs to get the crowd going and the band was rewarded for their efforts with a decent sized circle pit. Their set consisted of songs from their 2024 full length Spiritual Barbarism and two EP’s In Devotion to Dominance and Ethereal Suffering in the Light of God. If you like your metal brutal and fast, give Weeping a spin.

Fuming Mouth‘s guitarist and singer Mark Whelan described the band as death metal, metalcore and hardcore, in interesting mix which sounds really good. Plenty of headbanging and moshing as the band played a selection of songs from their July 17, 2026 effort The Ringing Bell. If you haven’t seen them live of heard any of their music, check them out.

I have heard the name Defeated Sanity for years and figured I would never get the chance to see them live, like a lot of other bands that are on our wish lists. They simply crushed it with a brutal set of songs that cover most of their albums going as far back as 2004’s Prelude To The Tragedy.
SETLIST:
Introitus
Consumed by Repugnance
Verblendung
Liquifying Cerebral Hemispheres
Accelerating the Rot
Martyrium
The Bell
Dislimbing the Ostracized
The first time I saw Revocation live was in 2010 at a small venue in Newport News, Virginia. For me I liked the direction that David Davidson was taking death metal and went out of my way to see them live when I could. Coming up with a set list that would please fans and cover 20 years and 9 full length albums was no mean feat. The band came out wearing party hats and Dave tried to use a party popper that wouldn’t work. Everybody was in a good mood and ripped through a set of some of their most brutal and technically challenging songs. Their was pit activity and a lot of headbanging.
SETLIST:
Nihilistic Violence
Scorched Earth Policy
Fracked
Confines of Infinity
The All Seeing
Data Corpse
Of Unworldly Origin
