Richmond, VA – Ahoy mates!! What be there to do on a rainy Sunday October 11, 2026 evening in Richmond, VA? Aye, be ya lacking in grog and be you in a pirate and pillage mood, and The Dread Crew of Oddwood be in town, you must take a voyage to the Canal Club in Richmond.
Having caught the crew, Wolfbeard O’Brady (Reece Miller, Vocals accordion), Stark Cordwain (bouzouki, pipes), Deckard Cordwain (Ukulele, mandolin), Dagna(sty) Silesia (upright bass), Pete (Drums), at Mad With Power 8 in 2025, I knew this was going to be an entertaining, mead full night.
Walking into the club, one of the first things I noticed was the Crew was talking it up with those in attendance. My wife and I had a nice exchange of stories of the high seas with Wolfbeard himself. I knew this was going to be a fun night, but it was good to see a band so engaged with the fans who came out to see them!!
The Canal was not packed with wannabe pirates, but those who were there were there because they aaaargh of course.
The opened telling everyone to “Join the Ranks” followed by “Side Quest“. We then learned that yes, they know land lubbers call the Crew’s music pirate metal, but they think it is “Heavy Mahogany”
A super fun moment took place just before they demanded, “Give Me Your Beer“. Sometimes ye have to be careful of what you ask for because before they knew it, beers were flowing their way from the crowd. Aaargh.

By this time the mates were ready to party and the port o’ call turned into a mini mosh pit as we readied the sail of the “Leather Ship” to encounter the “Giant Fucking Demon Crab” as we embarked on an “Expedition On Heavy Submarine“.
Those mates over 21 were told to “Raise Your Pints“, which was probably a good thing to do before finding out some of the story behind “Whalin’ Rumbo“… there are just some places you never want to go. A pirate’s life is laden with peril.
I could go on with the tale, woven like a fine tapestry by the Crew, but know this mates, this show was a blast!! If they take shore leave in your port o’ call, by all means, stop in, listen to their stories, dance a little, raise a pint, perhaps have a “Tavern Brawl” over a “Dead Man’s Medley“. You might even learn the their song, “Lawful Evil” is not from their album of that name, it is from Rust and Glory. How’s that for a tale of the high sea?!
