Glasgow, SC – The room was full in King Tuts in Glasgow with an eager crowd awaiting a powerful set from Mixed Signals. Two great support bands got the place warmed up and ready, with The Suits performing first. Consisting of Chloe on guitar, Rosie on vocals, Anna on drums and Iris on bass guitar, their indie-inspired songs “Sixteen” and “Rodeo” were well received, and kudos for performing two new tracks live for the first time that have a lot of potential.
Discola followed with a grittier sound and also showing a real command of the stage and audience, and songs like “75” and “Hometown” really set the tone for the evening’s headliner. Vocalist James Christie, guitarist Sol Duncan, bassist Jack McCarthy and Liam Carlton on drums were proof once again that the Scottish music scene is spoiled for riches at the moment.

Mixed Signals walked onto the stage as if they owned it, and that they did over a tight 45-minute set that showcased the massive potential that this young band have. Kicking off with “Destination Unknown” they immediately live up to the venue’s own comparisons to Biffy Clyro and Inhaler.
Their sound is powerful and at times anthemic, with singer Ben Gardiner’s voice lifting above the music and really hitting home. Both James Armstrong on guitar and Leon Calder on bass deliver harmonies that bring richness and depth to their music, whilst drummer Nathan Christie proves an absolute powerhouse – it’s an intoxicating mix of guitar riffs, pulsating bass and thunderous drums. It’s not hard to see why they were asked to perform at the iconic Isle of Wight Festival last year.
The set continued at pace and their latest release, “Different Frequencies”, produced by MPG Breakthrough Producer of the Year Tayte Nickols, sounds epic live. It was great to see the rapport they had with their audience, and it showed a real confidence in their delivery. The set slowed down for a delicate acoustic version of “Losing my Mind”, and the finale “Are You Satisfied?” truly has the feel of a stadium anthem – a fitting display that the way these guys look, play and sound shows they’ll be performing on much larger stages real soon.
