The Florida Supercon Returns to the Miami Beach Convention Center on July 4th with a Bang!

Miami Beach, Fl – The Florida Supercon is back in its original home at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The 4-day Supercon took place from July 4th through July 7th. Supercon is South Florida’s largest comic, anime, gaming and pop convention. The con returned to Miami Beach with new owners, ReedPop.

The con featured well known animators, movie and tv actors, and voice actors, as well as, wrestling stars. On this year’s schedule were several Start Trek alumni, including George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, Jonathan Frakes and Jason Isaacs.

In addition to these guests, actors from The Office, Oscar Nunes and Kate Flannery were also in attendance and had a hilarious Q&A session with fans. The list of guests goes on for miles, including wrestling superstars Jerry “The King” Lawler and Mike Foley, among others. There was also a large number of vendors attending this con, giving fans the opportunity to buy their favorite swag and unique items, or even get a tattoo.

Overall, it was a good event. There was certainly alot to see and do. The recently renovated venue was gigantic, much to the detriment of those that trekked, no pun intended, from the event floor to the main stage room on the second floor more than once a day. The venue is new, clean, well-maintained and spacious. Feedback from attendees was hit and miss. Some were just glad to have the event back in Miami Beach, while others felt that the distance between panels, discussions, events, etc. were just too much.

Having attended this conference for the past four years, I was disappointed with the guest list. In previous years there were much bigger names on the event schedule, such as cast members of The Walking Dead and Dr. Who, or from classic movies like Clerks, Karate Kid, Caddyshack and many others. I, for one, hold hope that the conference returns next year, although with the same momentum and caliber as previous years when held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
